We explore how interior design studio Pipkorn Kilpatrick have taken their signature contemporary style to three inner-Melbourne homes.
Pipkorn Kilpatrick founders Anna Skermer (formerly Pipkorn) and Jane Kilpatrick are known for their modern yet relaxed take on Australian residential design – specifically, their hold on Melbourne heritage renovations. Describing their design approach as “clean, innovative and time-resistant”, Pipkorn Kilpatrick’s ethos is simple; as Anna Skermer puts it, “great design does not dominate, but enhances and inspires the life that goes on inside.”
In this feature, we learn the hallmarks of a Pipkorn Kilpatrick kitchen – from form through to layout and appliances – and how natural light underpins each project the pair completes.

Large bi-fold doors extend the cooking and entertaining space into the courtyard.
A single bench against the wall is positioned under a skylight and clad in Carrara marble – one of Pipkorn Kilpatrick’s favourite kitchen materials. Bosch home appliances in this space include the Bosch Series 6, 60cm built-in oven, Bosch Series 6, 60cm semi-integrated dishwasher and Bosch Series 6, 60cm gas cooktop.
A clever open pantry in the kitchen doubles as a study nook or additional storage space.
A statement Blackwood island bench takes prime position in this Prahran kitchen, set against a backdrop of soft grey and cream cabinetry.
The designers selected the Bosch Series 8, oven, Bosch Series 4, integrated dishwasher and Bosch Series 6, natural gas cooktop for the light-filled kitchen.
Pipkorn Kilpatrick went against the grain of the typical under-counter oven placement, instead tucking the oven into the corner and making way for wider drawers.
