Coordinator Comments

Several additional action areas have been suggested by players.

Consumerism has been entered as an aspect of the culture of war by Joe, by Johnnidi and by Jabuticaba. Joe clicked on sharing & generosity as the culture of peace alternative, while Johnnidi suggested community and Jabuticaba proposed simplicity. Giuseppe contrasted "having more and more" with the alternative of cooperation.

Partnership culture (womyn), cooperative society (Amada), partnership model (Tonia), partnership (Jabuticaba), and cooperation system (Tom) have been suggested as an action area of the culture of peace, seeming to be variations on the same theme. It is seen as the alternative to the culture of war aspect of dominator culture (womyn), competitive society (Amada), authoritarian model (Tonia), competition (Jabuticaba) or landlord (Tom). In the forum topic on competition vs cooperation, it is pointed out that the popular writer Riane Eisler speaks of the need for a transition from a domination system to a partnership system.

Ignorance (Maialen, Eduardo Schenberg), lack of knowledge (Kiki), and basic instinct (Giuseppe) are suggested as aspects of the culture of war to be countered by social justice (Maialen), education (Eduardo Schenberg), opening of the mind (Kiki), or culture and not ignorance (Giuseppe).. The theme of justice is also raised by an anonymous player who contrasts the pride and power of the culture of war with the need for equality and justice in a culture of peace.

Two players mention patriarchy as part of the culture of war as opposed to empathy (pt) and equality of women and men (Emma) as part of the culture of peace.

Three players mention racism as an aspect of the culture of war versus multiculturality (Amada), racial equality (connie) or fairness (chhay haksym) as an aspect of the culture of peace.

Win-win is considered as an important description of the culture of peace by Lex and Fredo, as an alternative to win-lose (Lex) or "exerting power over others for one's own interests (Fredo).

Forgiveness and reconciliation are seen as the culture of peace alternatives to revenge (nqme ndri), "violence breeds violence (Mikio Tajima), holding grudges (Virginia), and revenge (Tom).

Dialogue is an important component of the culture of peace according to Medard du Rocher Bope, Parvati, and Virginia which they see as the alternative to violence and the attitude of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, and sovereignty, respectively.

Tom also mentions the additional dialectical pairs of sword vs ploughshares, top-down vs bottom-up, and arrogant vs humble.
